Day 5 - Singapore

Chinatown
Night Zoo

Though Chinatown is only small, there is just about everything there. If you are looking for souvenirs, some good street photography, classic architecture, weird food, temples, its all here.
You are allowed into the temples, and can also photograph in most of them. Some have rules of no shoes inside, others no singlets or shorts.

Some men playing chinese checkers I am guessing?
Buddha Tooth Relic Temple - We draped ourselves in the complimentary sarongs and scarfs at the entrance, and it was air- conditioned! It had multiple rooms and every one of them very ornate, decor was either red or gold!

Walked the narrow streets and bought the odd souvenir.
Did not, however, buy a lizard on a stick.

Visited Sri Mariamman Temple with cows decorating the roofline

Walked through the CBD past more random temples hidden in amongst the modern buildings. This is the Park Motel.

That night we taxied out to the Night Safari Zoo. Unfortunately it rained, hard, but put to good use our emergency rain ponchos and stumbled our way through the dimly lit jungle with the occasional claim of spotting an animal that didn't mind getting rained on. We got swooped by a random bat, came across a huge spider on the pathway, as well as loads of frogs and giant snails, so definitely a realistic jungle experience. We then caught the complimentary tram around the entire park for a second look and possibly saw more animals as the rain had eased to a drizzle, but it was still a bit of a Wheres Wally contest. Over the expanse of the entire Zoo I recall seeing maybe 2 fences, tiger enclosure being one of them, the rest it is very open and the only barrier between you and the animals is a deep ditch. Hopefully none of the lions get too pouncey, but it was good to see such an "open plan"zoo.
