Ravenswood - a photographers haven: Part 2

#ravenswood #oldminingtown #phototour

There are plenty of things to see and photograph in the township itself, an eclectic assortment of things in the museum, the interiors of the pubs, the general store with its very own red phone box. The two main tourist attractions would be just as you come into town, where an old miners cottage is set up, though you cannot enter. And secondly, would be the pathway though all the processing plant ruins littered with chimneys, rusty machinery, remnant brick buildings, corrugated iron, bottles, barbed wire and weeds. I spent hours one afternoon is this section alone.

The cemetery, just out of town past the local school, was another great place to wander.

There were also plenty of places within a short drive from town for some great sunset views, and windmills for silhouettes.

There was this old house a few hundred metres up from the pub, a bit scary to go into as the roof was caving in, but could get some shots from the verandah and front yard.

Our last mornings sunrise shots, of the church

Our very last afternoon was spent waiting out a heap of storm clouds, and we were amazed to walk out of the pub to see clear skies and stars so we headed to the old morge just out of town. The walls are all that remain of the morge, and together with this lone tree made great foregrounds for some star photography and light painting.

I hope they organise another tour next year, as I will probably go back again.
If you are looking to go for a weekend, head inland from Townsville and drive towards Charters Towers for about an hour turning left at Mingela and then about another 30 mins from there towards the Burdekin Dam (which I hope to visit next trip).
