Singapore - Hot, Humid and Heights!
Day 1
Our family trip away this year was 9 days in Singapore (11 including the evil flights but I am trying to wipe those hours from my mind).
We have never been here before, heard great things, so off we went.
We stayed at the Novotel in Clarke Quay, great central location, not far from the MRT and in the heart of a very popular nightlife and restaurant hub. I think if anyone lives in Clarke Quay they must be nocturnal. We did spot some in the daylight on the morning we arrived, and only because it was 6am and they were still up!
Clarke Quay at 6am
View from our motel
Some classic architecture with vivid colour schemes, Clarke Quay
After a much needed snooze, we headed out to discover the sights nearby.
Our goal was the Singapore Flyer via the riverwalk, dotted with old classic Singaporean architecture, mixed with extreme modern style buildings, and some surprises like the soccer field built out over and floating on the water, as they had no room for it.
It also appears that everyone in, or visiting Singapore at this given moment, had in fact received a "selfie stick" for Christmas, and had an urgent need to use them along said riverwalk. I managed to get some shots without selfie stick shadows.
Old Singapore Police Station
Marina Bay Sands
Helix Bridge
Made out way amid buskers and selfie sticks to the Flyer.
It was just prior to sunset as we embarked the worlds biggest ferris wheel, so great timing!
One trip was one revolution, around 40 mins, so it moves slow enough and never stops so on and off loading is a bit scary if you aren't into heights, though I did notice the giant net located underneath the loading section for those not so co-ordinated!!!! Hope it doesn't get used too often.
Worlds Biggest Ferris Wheel
Looking up on board the Singapore Flyer
The view cityside on dusk
As we were still a bit tired and just generally lazy, we caught a "bum Boat" back to Clarke Quay and saw the whole lot again but from a much different perspective, from the water and at night. Simply beautiful! I did not cart a tripod with me on this trip, so shooting from a fairly rapid moving little boat at night, not the best but pushed up the ISO to about 2000, f2.8 and good enough...
Marina Bay Sands and Lotus Flower Art Science Centre
CBD
Famous Fullerton Hotel in its glory at night

And back to Clarke Quay, which had gone through some amazing time warp and come to life.
These massive giant horn-like structures suck the hot air down, cool it and blast it back out cooling things down and providing a base for the shade sails, as well as hanging xmas lights, speakers etc
They are an example of some very different but cool ways of cooling things down. It was way cooler than Cairns at this time of year, but given it was in the middle of winter, cooling things down is a must! It also meant it was quite comfortable to sit outside at restaurants, with the shade sails 100 percent water proof as well.
