Japan - Hokkaido country

Ok I promise this is the last blurb about this awesome place.
January in Hokkaido is pretty much a white room with patches of dark (buildings, houses, farms etc) so shooting here in the daytime you need a super fast shutter otherwise everything is blown out.

Nighttime is different, but challenging in certain conditions, like sideways snowfall.
The Canon never froze up at night, which I was surprised about, but the iPhone certainly did.

Heres some shots from a night photo tour from Biei, about an hours drive from Furano.

This is the Blue Pond, which I think is an environmental disaster turned into a tourist attraction. It was bone chillingly cold out there that night, and didn't have my tripod with me, but there were some fence posts which sufficed for some long exposures that the darkness warranted.

These scene was used (daylight image) as an iPhone backdrop recently, which may be why you recognise it?? The lake is actually quite blue but they enhance it with some blue lights at night.

Mild Seven Hills, trees famous for being in a cigarette advert.
Super fast shutter speeds needed here!!!
